Filmmakers are invited to submit short films for the third annual Reel it OUT Gay Film Festival. The 2015 theme is “Equality.” Filmmakers and student filmmakers are encouraged to submit. All films will be judged on the achievement of excellence in filmmaking and utilizing the transformative power of film to promote positive change in people’s lives that are of interest to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning people, and/or which relate to gender or sexuality issues. The entries can be narrative, documentary, experimental and animated films and videos in either of two categories: Challenge (not over 5 minutes with not more than 6 lines of dialogue); and Open (not more than 30 minutes).
The Reel It Out Film Festival welcomes short films in either of two categories:
Films may be any subject with any content relevant to the LGBT community and connected to the 2015 festival theme – "Equality." The Equality theme addresses what constitutes a family. Using this as the premise of your film develop a film for one of the above categories (Challenge Category or Open Category.) Include a statement of not more than 300 words as to how the film conforms to the In the Family theme of the festival and how it is categorized as LGBTQ. Due to the openness of the categories and time restraints, theme and criteria will be that much more important. All Films will be subject to a critical review to determine whether or not it fits the LGBTQ festival theme.
Films may be in any style – live-action, documentary, or animation. The year of production must be within period Aug 2012 – present.
